TULSA, Okla. — Tulsans can now use their smartphones to see a special Christmas tree in downtown Tulsa.
Three giant holiday gifts are set up at West 5th Street and South Main Street, as part of Tulsa’s Downtown Days of Wonder campaign. Each gift has a QR code that you can scan to see an augmented reality holiday tree in the middle of the intersection.
Local software developer Chris VanDenhende partnered with the Downtown Tulsa Partnership to create the effect and offer people a unique holiday experience.
”I love Christmas. I love the lights, and the color, and all of the fun stuff that happens this time of year,” said VanDenhende. “I’m excited that the augmented reality Christmas tree is part of it.”
The tree is depicted as five stories tall and can be seen at 360 degrees. VanDenhende said the tree has a nontraditional look and hopes it gives viewers a new take on the holiday.
“It’s really exciting that we’re using new technology as part of the Downtown Days of Wonder, and I hope people experience the event and think it’s magical,” said VanDenhende.
You can see the tree though Jan. 15.
