Finnur Pind. Treble Founder and CEO, Treble Technologies.
Icelandic deeptech company, Treble Technologies, which specialises in sound simulation for real-world application as well as bringing hyper-realistic audio soundscapes to the metaverse, has raised €8m (£6.9m): a €5.5m (£4.7m) seed round plus a €2.5m (£2.2m) European Innovation Council grant. Treble’s proprietary technology will disrupt the world of sound: how it is understood, modelled, and moulded.
The seed round was led by leading Nordic VC Frumtak Ventures, with participation from NOVA (the venture arm of Saint-Gobain, the Fortune 500 company that is one of the world’s largest building materials companies) and various angel investors.
Treble has developed proprietary technology for sound simulation and spatial audio in virtual environments. The company’s product – a cloud-based virtual sound platform that connects with leading gaming engines and 3D modelling software – enables multiple industries such as construction, automotive, consumer electronics, and the metaverse to design better sound experiences.
Treble is a participant in an emerging and largely untapped market. For instance, the metaverse on its own will be a $13trn (£10.6trn) market by 2030 (per Citibank), and Treble will become a leader within realistic audio in the space (in addition to other sizable markets).

Commenting on the round, Treble Founder and CEO Dr Finnur Pind, said: “In just two short years, Treble has managed to establish itself as a serious and credible leader in our space.
“The funding will enable us to launch and scale our platform, with the first release scheduled in early 2023, as we rapidly scale the company. Throughout Q4 and into the new year, we are actively hiring for roles across the board, including engineers, programmers, and sales and marketing specialists.
“Sound is an undervalued sense, but research has consistently demonstrated that it has a major impact on people’s health, well-being and productivity. Our technology will not only make the real world a better sounding and less noisy place, but within virtual worlds as well.
“In fact, research shows that any increase in audio quality will have five times the impact that the same increase in graphics would have. Audio is of huge importance for immersive virtual experiences and, going forward, Treble plans to play a major role in the evolution of sound in the metaverse.”
Frumtak’s Managing Partner Svana Gunnarsdottir, commented: “The Nordics have a long and proud history of delivering truly original, innovative technologies, and Frumtak are delighted to support Treble.
“We are incredibly impressed by the work to date, in such a short time frame, and look forward to supporting the team as they continue to scale and widen applications of the technology. Treble’s potential is enormous.”
